Notes: Analysis by D. R. Nielson (in her 1974 Dartmouth doctoral thesis Metamorphic Diffusion in New Hampshire: Soapstone Bodies & Flecky Gneisses) of soapstone from the Canterbury, NH indicates some samples contain as much as 60% of the mineral talc. The major remaining component is chlorite. This sample came from the same approximate area as Dr. Nielson's.
The sample is easily scratched with the fingernail.
